Om, Ohm, Aum

Staying another day at Ananda. Two more women have arrived, one from the USA and the other from The Netherlands. The classes have improved as there are three of us now.  It's so much nicer here than in Kathmandu with the noise and pollution.
Chanting with the children morning and night is the highlight. Their eager voices are out of tune, but passionate. This is a spiritual place, and we discuss the benefits of Om, Ohm, or Aum (which is spelled differently depending on location).  It's good for health: relieves hypertension, insomnia, asthma, diabetes, stress, headaches.  Pretty much everything. This will be my new healing pathway.
I'm not sure what it does for diarrhea. That's a problem for many, including yours truly. My thinking was that it came from the fresh papaya being washed with questionable water.  Guru Gunga said "no problem," as bowel cleansing is a benefit of yoga. I'm not sure if he didn't understand or was brushing it off. When I questioned the water, he said that the water on this mountainside is for Kathmandu, and people from the city come and get it directly.  Anyway, I'm feeling better today but still not right.

Aum, the king of mantras, causes a vibrational resonance in the chest and heart area on the "O" sound and then moves to the head and throat with the "M," as the lips close. Most often, three are chanted in sequence, but more are fine as well. I particularly enjoy when everyone repeats "Aum" multiple times using a single breath, inhaling as needed, and it becomes a "round."

Aum is a three-letter word, as is God. "A" is for Brahma or the creator, "U" is for Vishnu the sustainer, and "M" is for Shiva the destroyer, which really means change or transition. Any spiritual growth requires change or destruction of old thoughts or patterns. This parallels the Trinity in Christianity. I enjoy discovering the universality that links all of us together.
